Possibility vs. Posture
By Jenna Pastuszek
Seth Godin was recently asked on his podcast, Akimbo, how he’d teach someone to canoe.
First, he said, he’d start by teaching them the skill of possibility. He’d teach them to believe that they could learn to do it. Then, he’d create a partnership, a team-like mindset where teacher and student work with each other toward a common goal.
Then, he’d explain the logistics of canoeing.
Possibility first, posture after.
Part of your job as a singer is to first believe that you can do it. After that, it’s easy to teach you the necessary mechanics.
Mindset is half the battle.
I believe in your ability to create the kind of art you’d like to make.
...Do you?
