Anxiety & The Voice

Management Strategies for Performance Optimization with special guest Jennie Morton

Performance anxiety is a phenomenon that many artists experience, but anxiety can also be threaded through other aspects of our lives and is particularly relevant to the current situation. To manage anxiety, it is essential to understand the underlying biological mechanisms that drive this experience so that strategies can be developed that work in accordance with the body’s intelligence.

In this session, you will learn about the role of the nervous, immune, and digestive systems in relation to anxiety, and how these can affect the voice. We will also discover how the voice and music can be used to manage anxiety through an understanding of the actions of the Vagus Nerve. The session will be interactive as we explore physical strategies for managing and preventing anxiety, and how these same approaches can also be used for character development for artistic performance.
